Loretta Commander, ARK2Freedom – Prison Outreach Coordinator
THE MORE GOD IS IN MY HEART AND SOUL THE MORE MY THOUGHTS AND LIFE CHANGE.
I spent most of my younger years in prison, but the real prison was inside my mind because Satan had me bound by lies and misconceptions that I believed. The cycle of lies was never-ending: “You’re not good enough.” “You’re damaged.” “Nobody loves you.” On and on it went, until I began Agape Bible College inside the prison walls, and through the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ I was set free from those lies and I was able to earn a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling for free. This also launched me into ministry with my fellow-inmates and even the prison staff.
Just 5 months after being released from prison, I was allowed to return to minister to the inmates, only this time from the outside. Now, twice weekly I travel back into the prisons, helping to teach the Agape Bible College with my Pastor, best friend, and teacher Dr. Karen Pelizzari. Not only do we offer the Bible College to women inmates, but I am also allowed to train inmates about Human Trafficking. We are currently working to expand our teaching and educational awareness to prison staff, and to more prison locations around Texas. That’s the kind of God I serve. What he’s done for me he can do for you, too. Jesus Christ is shining light into a dark world.
I have a huge family at Hope for the Hungry who love and support me in this ministry of God’s love, grace, and restoration. To my Hope and Agape family, I say “Thank you, for never giving up on me, and for seeing the diamond in the rough.” Please continue to pray for the light of God’s hope and goodness to shine on and through this prison ministry.
