Marotiere is a beautiful, rural village located high in the mountains of southern Haiti. Official estimates show that less than 45% of the population of Haiti will finish 8th grade and only 13% will receive a high school diploma. Sadly, the numbers are even lower in rural areas like Marotiere. This educational gap keeps most of the population paralyzed below the poverty line. (It is estimated that more than 80% of the rural population in Haiti lives on less than $1.00US per day).

To help combat this situation, Esprit De Verite School was founded. The goal of Esprit De Verite School is to give every child in the village of Mahotiere the opportunity to attend school and receive a high school level diploma. New schools in rural areas of Haiti such as Marotiere will help children develop their minds and allow them a better opportunity to compete in the world economy.

Until recently, the school in Marotiere was only partially constructed, but the need was so great, this incomplete structure was being used to educate approximately 150 students. Thanks to our ministry partners, A Time To Build, the first floor of the school has been completed as of September 2006!
